CENTRE MDC offers the following programs & services:

PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN &  ADOLESCENTS:

SOCIAL SKILLS GROUP

This program is for children and adolescents who are shy, withdrawn, asocial and/or have ADHD, learning or
developmental disorders, or behavioural difficulties. Some of the goals are to learn proper social interaction,
sharing, cooperation, role-playing, and discussion. Participants play a variety of games and activities designed
to teach and strengthen social skills, and take part in group discussions on strategies for getting along with
others.

Participants learn how to survive and succeed in high school. The 10-week program focuses on organization,
study skills, memory, executive function ability, and appropriate classroom behaviours. There are also two
parent sessions, one hour each, to discuss the program.

ASSERTIVENESS TRAINING

A major issue underlying bullies and victims is poor interpersonal skills. Children and adolescents, like adults,
may be passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, submissive, and/or manipulative. This program is designed
to help minimize the negative consequences of inappropriate playground politics.  It includes many exercises,
such as personal script writing and role playing, to teach children and adolescents to recognize these patterns
of interacting in themselves and in others, and then teach them assertive styles of relating.

ANGER MANAGEMENT FOR CHILDREN & TEENS

This program explores techniques to recognize anger and its sources. Anger management strategies, skills
and coping techniques are taught through drawing, storytelling, role-playing, games, group discussions, and
journal writing (where appropriate).
